|Another shutout for Amy Bright|
The Manhattan Lady Jaspers swept the Monmouth Hawks Sunday in a MAAC doubleheader in Riverdale, New York as they established the best conference start in their history.
Amy Bright was the starter for Manhattan in game one, and she continued her shutout streak with a masterful four hit performance. Briana Matazinsky gave her all the runs she would need by smashing a two run homer in the second inning. The game remained close, but the Hawks could not solve Amy Bright. Jenn Vazquez then continued her hot streak with a three run home run in the fifth inning that sealed a 5-0 win.
The Lady Jaspers got another shutout performance in game two, this time from Briana Matazinsky, who scattered five hits in the 5-0 win. Elena Bowman hit her MAAC leading 11th homer in the first inning, leaving her just six home runs short of tying the all-time conference record. Again the game was close, and again Monmouth could not solve the Manhattan pitching. Finally the LJs broke it open with a four run sixth inning. Jenn Vazquez's two RBI double and Briana Matazinsky's two RBI single finished off the Hawks.
Manhattan is now 8-0 in the MAAC; Monmouth fell to 4-4.
