|Ashalynn Umiamaka leads Monmouth in RBIs|
Quinnipiac 1 (6)
The Monmouth Hawks swept a MAAC doubleheader from the Quinnipiac Bobcats on a windy Saturday in West Longbranch, New Jersey.
Quinnipiac took a 1-0 lead in game one with a first inning sacrifice fly RBI by Casey Herzog, but after that it was all Monmouth as they cruised to a 9-1 win. The Hawks tied the game in the bottom of the same inning thanks to Ashalynn Umiamaka's RBI. The junior transfer has been driving home lots of runs as of late, and is among the MAAC's leaders in that category. In the third inning, Justene Reyes' single produced two runs, and gave MU a 3-1 lead. In the fourth inning, Ashalynn Umiamaka's two RBI single made it 5-1. A four run sixth inning ended this game early, highlighted by Kayleena Flores' walk off two run double. Sydney Underhill earned the win, striking out six batters.
Game two was much closer, and apparently affected by advisory type winds in the area. The game was tied 1-1 after an inning, with QU's Dani Edmands delivering an RBI single while the Hawks' Chloe Howerth scored on a wild pitch. Ashalynn Umiamaka's double and Justene Reyes single gave Monmouth a 3-1 lead after three innings. But Quinnipiac would come back to take the lead, somewhat aided by the gusty winds in the fourth inning. Molly Jarrett's RBI single cut the lead to 3-2, then the Bobcats would score three unearned runs to take the lead at 5-3. Two of the runs came on a two out, dropped fly ball which allowed the batter, Nikki Barba, to make it all the way home. RBIs by Rachel Shotzbarger and Justene Reyes tied the game for Monmouth in the bottom of the fifth inning, and a two out error in the bottom of the sixth inning scored Chloe Howerth and gave the Hawks the 6-5 win. Breanna Sniffen got the win with 3.1 innings of shutout relief.
Monmouth is now 3-1 in the MAAC; Quinnipiac fell to 2-2.
