|Amanda Gatt's game two shutout completed Siena sweep|
The Siena Saints swept a MAAC doubleheader over the Marist Red Foxes at wind swept Gartland Field in Poughkeepsie, New York Saturday.
The day was looking good for Marist in the first inning of game one. The Red Foxes jumped in front 2-0, with unearned runs scored by Maureen Duddy and Kyrsten Van Natta. A bases loaded walk in the top of the second inning made it a 2-1 game; then Marist increased their lead to two runs once more with a Becca Freeman RBI single in the bottom of the second inning. After this point, the rest of the day would mostly go the way of the Saints. Two unearned runs and an RBI by Sammy Smaldone gave Siena a 4-3 lead in the top of the third inning; they would not be behind the rest of the day. Bridget Connors' RBI single in the top of the fifth inning increased Siena's lead to 5-3. Wind was a factor in all MAAC games Saturday; left handed hitter Paige Lloyd then smacked a pitch that sailed over the left field fence for a two run home run and a 7-3 Siena lead. Marist added two more runs, but fell, 7-5. Lauren Butts earned the win with a seven strikeout performance.
Game two featured a great pitching performance by Amanda Gatt. The Saints' sophomore transfer was brilliant with a two hit performance. She struck out 11 Red Foxes; and was in complete control of the game. The Saints got on the board in the second inning with a pair of doubles. Alyssa Lancaster smashed a pitch down the left field line, then was driven home by Chelsea Stout. In the third inning, Siena scored two runs with another double, this time off the bat of Sammy Smaldone. This was all the Saints would need as Marist could manage only two singles in the game.
The Saints have won 9 of 11 games, and are 4-2 in the MAAC. The Red Foxes fell to 2-2.
