6th Seed Scenarios

Quinnipiac, Siena and Niagara will battle on the last day of the MAAC softball regular season for the sixth and final invitation to the upcoming MAAC Championship to be hosted by Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York May 11-14. Here are the scenarios for the three teams inolved:

Quinnipiac wins sixth place if they sweep Niagara OR if they beat Niagara once, and Siena loses to Marist once.

Siena wins sixth place if they sweep Marist and Quinnipiac loses to Niagara once OR if they beat Marist once and Quinnipiac is swept by Niagara.

Niagara wins sixth place if they sweep Quinnipiac and Siena is swept by Marist.

Quinnipiac holds the tiebreaker over Siena; Siena holds the tiebreaker over Niagara. There is no chance for a three way tie.

Siena hosts Marist (12 pm EDT); Niagara is at Quinnipiac (1 pm EDT).

Also it has yet to be decided which team will be the second seed, and receive a first day bye at the tournament. Monmouth hosts St. Peter's today (1 pm EDT), and will win second place with a sweep of the Peacocks. If they do not sweep SPU, Manhattan will win second place.

Around the MAAC:
Although Marist really has nothing to play for today, they do have an opportunity to break two more records. If the Red Foxes sweep Siena, they will break the MAAC mark for team wins in a season. Senior Maureen Duddy is just three stolen bases shy of Lauren Hope's career record. Likely she will be running wild if given the opportunity.

With their sweep of St. Peter's Saturday, the Manhattan Jaspers achieved a 30 win season for the first time since 1993. Their 14 conference wins this season is a school record.

St. Peter's is the only team in all of Division 1 to yet record a win. They have one last chance today vs. Monmouth. The Peacocks will be looking for a new head coach following the conclusion of this season.
